Welcome The Mediation and Meeting Center of Charleston is a nonprofit founded in 2008 to provide the benefits of mediation to everyone regardless of income level. The Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse group of individuals committed to providing and promoting mediation. |
The center offers a roster of mediators for public use. Sliding scale and pro bono mediation services are coordinated through the Center, and we provide a neutral site for conducting mediation. Additionally, we conduct community forums about mediation and programs for mediation training. |

Frequently Asked Questions What is mediation? Mediation is a process by which two or more parties in conflict agree to work towards resolving and understanding their differences with the help of a third party, the mediator. The mediator does not give legal advice or make decisions. Parties may choose to bring lawyers with them to mediation if they wish, but this is not required. Where do the MMCC's mediation sessions take place? The mediations take place at a location convenient to the parties and the mediator. Depending on preferences of the mediator and the parties, the session may take place primarily in one room or in separate rooms. How much will the mediation cost? The price for mediation varies by each party's income, ranging from free up to market rate. Please see the sliding scale guidelines for more information about pricing. How do I get started? Both parties need to fill out the application and send (with the processing fee, as described below) to: MMCC ℅ Lindsey Rash 602 Rutledge Avenue Charleston, SC 29403 Is there a processing fee? Yes. Each party should include with their application a $10.00 check payable to the MMCC for the processing fee. The checks will be refunded if the case is not approved for reduced fee or pro bono mediation. How do I choose a mediator? After the MMCC has received both parties' applications, the parties will be informed as to the rate each must pay; they will be assigned a file number; and a list of three mediators will be provided. Parties are responsible for using the list to retain the services of a mediator at the rate approved, and to schedule the session. Do I pay the mediator or the MMCC for the mediation? Pay the mediator directly. The MMCC is a nonprofit organization founded to provide the benefits of mediation to everyone regardless of income level.
